CloudBoost performs inline deduplication, compression and AES‑256 encryption on the client side (or in‑appliance) so that only minimal, secure data is sent to the cloud object store.

For NetWorker deployments in public clouds that need to write backups to object-storage targets (AWS S3, Azure Blob, etc.), you must deploy the CloudBoost virtual appliance. CloudBoost is the data-protection-optimized enabler that handles client‑side deduplication, compression, and encryption and then writes the deduplicated data into the cloud object store, while only metadata is retained locally on the appliance.

The vProxy appliance requires the vCenter server to use its default HTTPS port; it does not support a non‑default vCenter HTTPS port. Therefore port 443 is the only port that cannot be changed for VMware Protection with vProxy.
